2005-10-20 - Absolute Annihilation: Spring 0.1 Released

The highly popular OTA mod, Absolute Annihilation, has now been fully converted for compatibility with Spring. Unlike the original Spring version released some months ago, the new version is fully compatible with the mod switching system. It also features many visual and strategic enhancements only possible in Spring, and uses the latest version of the AA dataset, 6.0.

Already a new version is available, 0.2, which corrects several major bugs and increases all unit line-of-sight by 30%.

Absolute Annihilation is distinct, but closer to classic TA than to XTA.

Absolute Annihilation, or AA, is based on UberHack and so attempts to rebalance TA without rearranging the buildtree as radically as XTA has. However whereas UberHack added only a few extra units, AA incorporates many new units including some of the more impressive new units concocted by the ever-creative TA community. AA is under constant development, spurred on by its small but highly active community following, and Caydr, who heads up the development.

Units are subject to frequent and sometimes brutal tweaking and pruning.

AA contains new factories, units, resource buildings, sneaky defensive structures and an array of massive "tier 3" units for brutalizing the enemy's base.

Players new to the mod should be warned that some old units now fill new roles, while some are more (or less) effective than they were in classic TA as of the 3.1c patch.

AA:Spring is based on version 5.0 of the mod, but is termed version 1.0 for Spring for simplicity sake. Seeing that many engine features necessary to properly play Absolute Annihilation were missing from Spring, Caydr decided to concentrate on OTA (original Total Annihilation) versions of the mod.

Now that development of AA for Total Annihilation has ceased, the mod's developer is working hard on developing Spring-based versions incorporating all of the engine's advanced features.
