This means there is no texture compression support in the driver. There would be hope with a software texture compression library from [http://homepage.hispeed.ch/rscheidegger/dri_experimental/s3tc_index.html].
Unfortunately this method is patent encumbered, otherwise you could download and extract the latest version. You would also need two packages and their dependencies (Ubuntu/Debian instructions):
<code>
$ sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-dev driconf<br>
$ cd <folder you extracted to><br>
$ make<br>
$ sudo make install<br>
$ driconf<br>
</code>
During the last step, you would have to enforce texture compression.

To uninstall pulseaudio, open your favourite package manager *eg Synaptic under Ubuntu), and search for packages with the "pulse" in their name. From these, remove all but the libraries (package names starting wiht "lib").

Troubleshooting

Graphics: I am having really bad framerates (fps) on my dual core! What am I doing wrong?

This error is sometimes reported by people having multicore-CPUs. To solve this, you could try to restrict it to run on one core. Download the file from http://www.robpol86.com/pages/imagecfg.php follow the instructions, and make all of the spring exe files (spring.exe, TASClient.exe, all others) run on one core.

Installing the latest processor drivers and Windows hotfixes for your system may also help.

Graphics: I am having really bad framerates (fps) on my brand new nVidia graphics card! What am I doing wrong?

Turn off 'threaded optimizations' for Spring in the nVidia control panel.

Graphics: I use an ATI or Intel graphic card on Linux with Open-Source drivers, and the map is all white! Is there a solution?

This means there is no texture compression support in the driver. There would be hope with a software texture compression library from [1]. Unfortunately this method is patent encumbered, otherwise you could download and extract the latest version. You would also need two packages and their dependencies (Ubuntu/Debian instructions):

$ sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-dev driconf
$ cd <folder you extracted to>
$ make
$ sudo make install
$ driconf

During the last step, you would have to enforce texture compression.

Sound: I am having sound problems under Linux! What can i do?

In more then 90% of the cases, this is caused by pulseaudio. To uninstall pulseaudio, open your favourite package manager *eg Synaptic under Ubuntu), and search for packages with the "pulse" in their name. From these, remove all but the libraries (package names starting wiht "lib").
