Playing
Getting Started
# To play a game of Spring, you must run the TASClient program.  Spring itself, at this time, cannot be run directly very well.<BR><BR>
# You can start TASClient through the start menu link it creates or by running TASClient.exe in the directory you installed Spring in.<BR><BR>
# At this time AI-controlled opponents do not function very well, and most of them only work with XTA (the default Spring mod), and even then they don't work very well.  This is a high-priority feature and much effort is being put into it by several talanted community members. To check out the progess on the AI's, goto the AI forum or check out the AI page in the wiki.<BR><BR>
# To switch between camera modes , hold down Shift on your keyboard and push your middle mouse button. For more info on Camera Views, see the section on Camera Modes in the Using Spring Article.<BR><BR>
# At this time, most data sets for Spring are in the Beta stage, almost working correctly, but not necessarily to the degree they would be in Total Annihilation.  They should all be considered works-in-progress.  Feel free to contact their authors with bug reports, as I personally know it is very much appreciated.<BR><BR>
Mods
# You can download most mods from http://www.fileuniverse.com/?p=listing&ID=92. You should probably bookmark this page.
# To install a mod ("data set") to Spring, you must simply put its ".sd7" file (or files) into your "Spring\Mods\" directory.
# Some mods have multiple files to them. For example, "Absolute Annihilation" currently contains the main file, and three files which vary the game, giving the mod a total of four files.  Place all these into the mod folder.
# Once a mod has been installed, it will automatically appear as an option when you start a game ("Battle Screen") in TASClient.<BR><BR>

Client
To get started with Spring, download SpringLobby, which you can use to play, chat and download games and maps.
# The purpose of TASClient is similar to the Microsoft Zone lobby, only not as pretty.  You can go there to chat, start games, download maps, and basicly anything Spring related.<BR><BR>
# Private messaging is also supported through TASClient by double-clicking a person's name on the list on the right-hand side of the screen. To exit a private messaging window, right-click that person's name at the top of your screen. (next to something like "#main")<BR><BR>
# If you're in a battle, but have 'lost' your battle screen, you can get it back by hitting the "Battle Screen" button on the top-left of the main Client window. This is also where you host games from.<BR><BR>

Playing

Spring is an engine! It can play many different games and maps. To play, you need at least one Game and Map!

Getting Started

To get started with Spring, download SpringLobby, which you can use to play, chat and download games and maps.

Downloading Games/Maps

To download Games (or Maps), use your lobby to join an online battle hosting the game/map that you want. It should offer to download for you.

If the download fails, or if no games/maps show up, you should check that your lobby has found your Spring install. With SpringLobby, click edit -> preferences -> Spring, and make sure that it has the correct paths.

You can also download games and maps manually, see the FAQ. There is also the option to install different Lobbies.

Single-Player

To start a single-player game, use your lobby. Go to the Single-Player tab. Select a game, map and AI and click "Start".

Some AIs don't work with all games. If the one you pick builds nothing, try another!

Playing Online

To play online, you need the latest version of the Spring Engine. To join matches, look for the "battles" or "multiplayer" tab in your lobby client.

Wondering where some former popular games are?

Some larger games run their own lobby servers!

Lan Party
